About Machine Room Guarding

Machine Room Guarding (MRG) designs and fabricates barrier guarding for industrial equipment and the passenger elevator industry. Serving the United States & Canada.

Where MRG came from

MRG grew out of a custom fabrication shop. Over the years, that shop built guarding for industrial customers of every kind: manufacturing and production lines, packaging and automation equipment, and food and beverage plants, each job measured and fabricated to fit the machine and protect the people working around it. The shop also had strong, long-standing relationships with elevator companies, and that work grew into something more specialized: perimeter guarding for elevator machine rooms, component guarding, and car top rails built for the realities of elevator work.

We saw the potential for a dedicated product line, gave it its own name, and have marketed Machine Room Guarding as a specific brand ever since. Today that adds up to more than 30 years of guarding experience and over 1,000 installations. We see demand for this work worldwide, and our focus is North America.

What we build

For the elevator industry. This is where MRG runs deepest. We fabricate machine room perimeter guarding, component guarding, and fixed and collapsible car top rails, and we work with major elevator OEMs and independent elevator contractors across the United States and Canada. The Global Guarding parts line covers common machine room layouts with standard panels, posts, and door kits, and custom fabrication covers everything else. Contractors typically allow about four hours to guard one elevator machine, and crews familiar with the system have occasionally reported three or four machines in a day. Actual times vary with site conditions and crew experience.

For industrial facilities. The same survey-and-fabricate approach applies to plant-floor equipment: barrier guarding for production lines, packaging and automation machinery, and processing equipment in food and beverage environments. If it has moving parts and people near them, we can build guarding to fit it. All of it is custom machine guarding: surveyed, engineered, and fabricated to the equipment it protects.

How we work

Every project moves through the same four stages.
  • Survey. Every job starts with measurements of the actual space. Depending on the project, dimensions come from your team, from our staff when we are engaged to provide survey service, or from a combination of the two.
  • Engineering. We turn the survey into fabrication drawings sized to the room and the equipment in it, and you approve the drawings before anything is cut. MRG does not perform risk assessments; that responsibility belongs to the customer or contractor.
  • Manufacturing. Approved drawings go to our own shop for fabrication. Panels, posts, and rails are cut, welded, formed, and finished, then checked by quality control before they leave.
  • Delivery. Finished guarding ships to the jobsite ready to install. Installation services are available depending on project scope and location.

Documentation

For guarding we fabricate, installation drawings and a letter of conformity are available on request.
